Housing and Living Environments 12

Are you interested in how people live? Do you have an eye for design? This course will look at the social, political, economic and environmental concerns that shape how and where people live. Throughout the course students will explore their own personal design interests, and how they can be applied to the development of housing options and alternatives. Students will examine new tools and technologies and their roles in housing. Topics covered include: societal trends, including ethical, environmental, political issues, considerations for individual and family needs with respect to living space, financial considerations involved in housing choice (including down payment, financing options, rent, maintenance and upkeep) as well as building, architectural, and interior design methods and materials that enhance a living space, including the elements and principles of design.
