The CP Rec Program aims to:

  • Enhance students understanding of the human body and science, and their impact on sport.
  • Provide a link between physical activity and potential careers.
  • Enhance student understanding of the role and impact that Sport and Recreation have in society.
  • Introduce students to the wide range of career opportunities in sport, recreation and health.
  • Give students an opportunity to complete 100 hours of work experience in a related field.
  • Expose students to a variety of recreational opportunities.
  • Help prepare students for post-secondary education.

Human Performance 11 course info:

In Human Performance 11 there is a focus on human anatomy and physiology, but there are also sports and recreation related content where students will get experience planning, facilitating, and taking part in a variety of activities.  Specific units include medical terminology, osteology, myology, cardiology, sports injuries, and tournament organization, and students will also receive first aid training.

Human Performance 12/Work Experience 12 course info:

In Human Performance 12 there is a focus on recreation, health, and helping the student become more employable. Specific units of study include workplace health and safety, society and recreation, nutrition, self-care/mental health, motor skill development, camping skills, and lesson planning. Students will receive certifications in a variety of areas including work safety, concussion awareness and anaphylaxis training. Students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of recreational outings such as sailing, surfing, and golfing. A highlight for all is a camping trip to Tofino.  A new addition to this course is that it is being paired with a dual credit sports management course (SPMA 100) with Camosun College that, upon completion, will give students credit for a post-secondary course.

Work Experience 12 (WEX):

Students will have the opportunity to gain valuable “real world” experience through a paid or volunteer work experience placement.  Students will accumulate 100+ hours of work experience in an area related to recreation, sport, or health that they are interested in learning more about.  Examples of workplaces include recreation centres, health clinics, farms, care facilities, elementary schools, and sports organizations.

If a student completes Human Performance 11, Human Performance 12, and WEX 12, then they will also receive credit for Career Life Education 10.
