Philosophy and Comparative Cultures 12

This course provides students with a broad introduction to philosophy, anthropology, religion, history and art history, and archeology. We will study the development of artistic, religious and philosophical ideas of both western and eastern civilizations, as well as the development of culture through art, architecture, cuisine, religion, philosophy and history. Other themes we will study include gender, ethics, revolution, and environmental factors that influence culture. The class will encourage discussion and the development of research and writing skills. Students will learn to assess, analyze and formulate informed ideas about and of their world. The class allows students to experiment with a broad range of subjects giving them a strong base for their own inquiries or preparing them for university study.
