Career Life Connections and Capstone 12 is a required course for graduation that all grade 12 students take. The course has an online format where all assignments and explanations are located in a Google Classroom. Tutorials and information sessions take place throughout the year to allow students to talk to the teachers face to face. The course has 5 requirements for students to complete:
- i) A personal profile, ii) transition plan for after graduation, iii) financial budget, iv) 30 hours of volunteer/ work experience and v) capstone project.
The capstone project, also referred to as a senior project, is a task that students have from September to March to complete. Project ideas, exemplars and structured check in dates are provided to help assist students through the process. Students are first required to submit a project proposal which is reviewed by the class teacher. Completing the capstone project requires students to research their topic as well as undertake an experiential component. Furthermore, students need to use their networking skills to set up interactions with a mentor who can provide guidance. The capstone culminates with a gallery style showcase for students to present their projects to an audience that may be composed of peers, teaching staff or members of the community.
